Composite fillings are direct restoration which mean can be placed at the same appointment. They bond to the tooth structure (enamel and dentin) with the help of a bonding agent. It is normal to have some sensitivity for a few days to cold and hot after composite fillings but this sensitivity should gradually subsidize. Depending on many factors like size of the restoration, chewing force, location of the restoration, patient diet and hygiene composite fillings needs to be evaluated and may need to be replaced every few years. It is common to see some color change in composite filling after a while depending on patient’s diet and smoking habit.
