Ace Dental is here to answer all your wisdom teeth-related questions to help keep your smile forever young

As we all know, likely due to at least one visit from the Tooth Fairy, we have a set of baby teeth before our permanent adult teeth come in. But did you know that the wisdom teeth, also known as the 3rd molars, are the last teeth to erupt in adults?

One of the most common questions we hear at Ace Dental Centres is, “should I remove my wisdom teeth?” If you’ve ever wondered or are currently wondering, we’re here to help.

Below, we’ll explain the different scenarios which may apply to you and what to do next.

Erupted wisdom teeth

If there is enough room, your jaw bone will naturally accommodate wisdom teeth in the correct position. If they don’t cause any discomfort or pain, or harm the adjacent teeth, provided you continue to keep them clean and healthy, they can be left in your mouth.

However, they’ll need to be monitored regularly for possible gum infections in the future. This careful watch is because wisdom teeth can decay or cause gingivitis or gum infection due to limited access to them for proper brushing and flossing.

If this happens, the most likely recommendation would be to have them removed to help promote gum health and prevent gum infection or decay on the adjacent teeth.

Impacted wisdom teeth

When the jaw bone does not have enough room for wisdom teeth to come through, or the angle of their eruption is incorrect, they can get trapped under the teeth next to them or in the bone.

 In other words, ouch!

When this happens, the best course of action is to have them removed as soon as possible, preferably in early adulthood, to prevent the possibility of a cyst forming around them or causing damage to the surrounding teeth.

How Ace Dental can help

Removing wisdom teeth must be performed by an experienced dentist to reduce the risk of possible complications or infection.

Luckily, the removal of wisdom teeth is described as one of the most well-known types of oral surgery in Coquitlam. Ace Dental’s team, including Dr. Rahgozar, is willing and happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
